Updates

Good morning, Tangi! We have a LOT of road work on the schedule for this week! Here's an update on the projects our crews have planned this week: Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said Sharon Road will be closed at its intersection with Sisters Road starting at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Crews will be replacing a cross drain, and no traffic will be allowed while construction is underway. Miller said the roadway is expected to reopen at or around 2 p.m. that day. In addition to this maintenance project, Phase 2023 overlay work continues across the parish. This week, crews will be paving Tina Drive, Oak Meadows, and Corbin Road, while dressing work is scheduled on the following streets: West Portier Road, Hollie Lane, Loyd Road, Miller Lane, Tina Drive, Recile Lane, Graceland Road, Corbin Road, Oak Meadows, Magnolia Banks, Ruby Oaks Court, Oak Creek Trace, Weald Way, Holly Drive, and George Road. This week motorists can also expect a big change at the intersection of South Airport/Hoover/Sisters Road. The four-way stop at that intersection will be transformed into a roundabout traffic pattern starting this Thursday, Sept. 28. Temporary signs, barricades, striping, and cones will direct traffic around the new configuration. Miller asks motorists to drive slowly and exercise patience while maneuvering through the new circle, as crews will be working in and around the lanes of traffic to complete curb and gutter work. Miller said DOTD’s scheduled closure of Randall Road has been postponed. Originally set to begin on Monday, the project has been pushed back several days. A new start date will be announced shortly.

Check out these smiles! #TeamTangi worked with the Louisiana Department of the Treasury's Unclaimed Property division to help a dozen employees in the Great Give Back event. At this time, there is more than $1 billion in unclaimed property that the state Treasurer's Office is trying to return to its rightful owners. Many times, these funds are held up because of a bad address or some other simple issue. Tangipahoa Parish Government is one of the many employers who have helped their employees identify any unclaimed funds due to them. Want to know if you have unclaimed property? Have you heard? There are big changes coming to the intersection of South Airport/Hoover/Sisters Road on Thursday, Sept. 28. PONCHATOULA—Starting Thursday, Sept. 28, there will no longer be a four-way stop at the intersection of South Airport, North Hoover, and Sisters Road. In order to accommodate the next phase of construction of the new traffic circle, motorists will begin using the new roundabout pattern at the South Airport, North Hoover and Sisters Road intersection, Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said. “Temporary signs, barricades, striping, and cones will direct traffic around the new roundabout configuration,” Miller said. He urged motorists to drive slowly and “exercise patience” while maneuvering through the new traffic pattern. Crews will be working in and around the circle during this transition period. Miller said to expect delays while crews work close to travel lanes in order to complete curb and gutter work, which must be finished before asphalt is applied to the roadway.

Today Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller participated in a roundtable discussion on the extreme heat conditions we’ve experienced this summer. Miller told the subcommittee of the Congressional Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that FEMA should develop plans for releasing federal assistance in emergency situations like the wildfires that impacted our community this summer. “While these unusual events do not have specific beginnings and ends, like a natural disaster would, they are nonetheless emergency situations that are beyond the scope of traditional service,” Miller said. Miller spoke on the call as a representative of the National Association of Counties (NACo), who supports this proposal because it would give local authorities the ability to declare an emergency and request funds or equipment without requiring a Presidential declaration.
