May 14, 2020 Update

News

  • Today, Governor John Bel Edwards formally issued a proclamation for the state to move into Phase 1 of reopening beginning tomorrow.  Phase 1 is expected to last a minimum of 21 days before moving into Phase 2.  Under Phase 1, the following types of businesses may now be open, with limitations (25% occupancy, sanitation, spacing for physical distancing):
    • Churches
    • Solo and non-contact sports
    • Barbers and salons
    • Museums, zoos, aquariums (no tactile exhibits)
    • Gyms and fitness centers
    • In malls, stores with exterior entrances, as well as retail stores inside malls, with 25% capacity
    • Restaurants, coffee shops and cafes
    • Bars and breweries with LDH food permit – takeout, delivery and dine-in seating only
    • Theaters
    • Casinos and Video Poker
    • Racetracks (not open to spectators)
    • Offices
    • (Massage establishments, spas, tattoo parlors, and all other places of public amusement from 52 JBE 2020 remain closed)

You can register to receive updates on state guidance from opensafely.la.gov.  The website is being updated to provide the option to download information specific to your business type without registering on the site.  Registration is not used for tracking purposes – it only provides a business with automated notifications as guidance is updated.

  • State Office Buildings – State office buildings will begin opening tomorrow and early next week.  The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries opens tomorrow in Baton Rouge and across the state on Monday (in time for brown shrimp season which opens May 18).  Other state office buildings will open Monday.  You can check specific agency websites for regional offices to see if they have adjusted hours (for example, your local Office of Motor Vehicles).
  • New Orleans RTA – The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority announced that they will resume fare collections for riders beginning May 17.  The transit agency also announced that they will also restore routes that had been taken offline and will operate on a Saturday transit schedule each day.  The RTA will continue to implement social distancing guidelines on busses and streetcars, including allowing only 24 riders on a vehicle at a time.
