News
- Over $7B of Paycheck Protection Loans in LA + Updates – The Small Business Administration has posted its latest report on Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan approvals through May 30. More than $510 billion in loans have been approved nationwide, including 67,000 loans totaling more than $7.2 billion in Louisiana. To view the report, click here. In other PPP developments, the Senate continues to discuss potential revisions to the program which were approved by the House last week, including extending the “forgivable” timeline for the loan, and reducing the 75% payroll requirement. - Special Session Begins – The Special Session of the Louisiana Legislature is underway. Among the thirty+ bills that have been filed are several instruments addressing tax measures aimed at incentivizing investment in the post-corona environment. Proposed bills are posted on the Legislature’s website legis.la.gov.
- Phase 2 for Reopening the Economy – Yesterday, Governor John Bel Edwards announced that Louisiana will move to Phase 2 for reopening the economy beginning June 5. Under Phase 2, all business that were previously allowed open will be able to increase capacity from 25% to 50%, while still maintaining 6 feet of distance amongst patrons. Further, bars and breweries without LDH food permits will be allowed to open at 25% occupancy seated, in addition to event centers, public pools, tattoos parlors, and spas being allowed to open with social distancing restrictions.
